Students should anticipate getting wet and bring appropriate clothing for the weather.

The Fleet at SYC

Students will have the opportunity to sail with a friend in a two-person Vanguard 15 or 420, or sail individually in a Laser.

The Vanguard 15 and the 420 are the primary training boats at Seattle Yacht Club. These stable, double-handed boats with main and jib are the national standard for novice and advanced sailors to master the basics and to develop teamwork.

Advanced sailors can add the spinnaker and trapeze to the 420 to challenge their sailing skills.

Students will also have the opportunity to sail Seattle Yacht Club’s Lasers. The Laser is a high-performance, single-handed boat well-suited to continue the development of our more experienced sailor’s boat-handling and racing skills. This boat has two different size sails, allowing us to tailor the boat to the weight of the sailor.
